Last Friday evening I went to the opening reception and signing for Heather's new book, Water Paper Paint. I can't tell you how excited I was to get this book in my impatient hands, and my wait was rewarded even more than I can say. It is a stunning book. If you read Heather's blog, you know how captivating her work is, how impeccable her eye is to detail, how every word and image she chooses is full of meaning and thought and beauty and life. Water Paper Paint is written in that same style - in every page and sentence there is a world to absorb. Her projects are adaptable to many different forms of art, and they are scaleable to any skill level. Earlier this week the girls and I had some snowy day fun with a few of her suggestions, and in the middle of one technique, my artsygirl said, "I love doing this. I learned it at the Lawrence Arts Center." Of course she did, because four years ago Heather was her very first art teacher. It's not surprising that she still remembers, because Heather's art has that kind of lasting effect on people, quiet yet powerful. Water Paper Paint will reach you, teach you and stay with you in just the same way. It is a must have for the art bookshelf. Beautiful job, Heather. ♥

I LOVE this book. I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks. Her writing is so friendly, while still being direct and full of information. And the color, yum!
I recently purchased this book and I agree.. it's a fab resource.. one I go thru time and time again! hugs.. just shared about this book the other day too! hugs
Thanks for the review! Coming from you the positive review means a lot. Not only that, during this gray and bleak time of year, we need all the COLOR we can get.
On that subject, thanks for the awesome little 5x7 art you sent me via Etsy. I am just amazed at how bold and bright and gorgeous your art is!!
i have wanted this book... my wish list is a mile long. thanks for the review.
I just went onto Barnes & Noble's web site and reserved a copy at my local B&N store. So convenient! Aimee, you may want to go online and publish that glowing review at B&N or Amazon's site. Can't hurt to mention your own blog or name in the review, and surely Heather will benefit too. Just a thought.
thanks for sharing. i hadn't seen this one. will have to look for it.
Thank you Aimee, reading your words make me a bit teary-eyed. :) And I'm so happy to hear that N. is enjoying it too.
(I can't believe the opening was a week ago already; I was so thrilled you and the other ladies were there!)
the book looks wonderful and how special to have heather and you as teachers. don't forget that japanese paint brush i sent to you last year. the aqua colored-one where you put the water in the base! it's for watercolor painting on the go! enjoy your weekend!
This is one of the books that I absolutely must get, just the cover is lovely! A must have! Love the heart-book there too, artsygirl is taking after mama!
Oh no-you have made me want another book! It sounds good. I have been using watercolours at school with the kids this week and it has been most fun! I shall go and have a look at her blog now!
The book and your description sound lovely. Lawrence is so full of amazing artists!!

I LOVE this book! Had it on my wish list at Amazon long before it's released, and got it as soon as it was available! SO worth the wait!

ha ha. love that odly specific grown-up valentine "be mine". why beating around the bushes, ei?
I suspect this technique suits your artsygirl perfectly.
btw, I'm totally judging this book by its cover. it looks fab and fun :)
How fun! A new book to add to my to-explore list! Thank you.
okey dokey. adding to books-i-must-read list (it's getting overwhelmingly long).
sounds like a book I need to put on my ToBuy list! Thanks for sharing - that's neat about your daughter. {:-D
ohh Heather's book does look like a treat. going straight on to my wish list :)
oh yes yes yes, Aimee... i love your review!!! from cover to cover (literally, because the covers have the texture of watercolor paper), this book is so wonderful... totally takes the intimidation out of watercolor and puts the fun and accessibility back into it... you can't help but feel good just by opening this book, and you most definitely can't help but drop everything to dive into the goodness and lightness of being you feel when you're playing with your watercolor paints.
I've always wanted to get into water color, and this may just be my guide. Looks wonderful, and wow, all these rave reviews!
what a captivating review you wrote, Aimee. You know your way not only with colours, but with words as well!
oh WOW! i need this book!!!
thanks for the recommendation!

It looks juicy good, and I LOVE that your girl remembered her techniques. What a lucky kid to have Heather as her second (to you) art teacher.
hmmm. I need to get that book.
Well, nice review! I didn't even put it on my long 'book want' list, I just ordered it from Amazon. You owe me $16.00 - ha, ha! Thanks for recommending it - a new art book sounds good this time of year.
