Welcome to my drawing room! Come on in and have a cup of coffee, or perhaps something a bit milder or stiffer. My first creative guest is someone who is in my drawing room every day, my mix and match cryptospeaking girl, who in fact is here right now gobbling up a piece of Jen's No Way coffee cake. I picked her as my first one because 1) she's family and would have to forgive me if I botched it and 2) everything about her influences what I do and how I create. Everything. Her speech, her style, her curiosity, her writing, her whole way of being -- I suck it up like a sponge and it comes out in my art in every possible way.
So here are some fun random things about her thoughts and doings. Her Facebook, Twitter and blog links would be here too if she had them, but Mama says she is not yet permitted to have those. She'd also play Super Mario 64 on her DSI all day long if she could, but she is not permitted to do that either.
See you next week Tuesday another installment of In the Drawing Room (though I'll be back with other stuff before that)!

Love this!! She sounds like she's quite a creative girl. That's so awesome that you nurture that creativity. As an art teacher, I see so much creativity squelched by well-meaning grown-ups!! Looking forward to more Tuesdays :)
how sweet! you two must have so much fun together -
looking forward to meeting more in your drawing room
Aww! What a perfect first Drawing Room guest! Love it!!
Great test case!!! Your daughter is most definitely inspirational. I love that her favorite author is Roald Dahl.
This reminds me that I need some fun socks for this fall.
No doubt about it, she is a star! Love this :)
the perfect first guest who teaches more about freedom in just being yourself before the age of 10 than many people will ever do.
I LOVE THIS!! (YES, I am SHOUTING because it's so great!!)
yay artsy girl! what a delightful muse!
:)
...i'll be back
I love it! I'd play Super Mario too if I had a DS. My granddaughters share theirs with me when I visit (and have a good laugh at my clumsiness). One of the granddaughters is also a door climber! I can see how your daughter inspires you in so many ways.
Can't wait to see who you interview next.
Awesome awesome awesome! Love this sooooo much!
Dear Artsy Girl!
I cannot tell you how much I LOVED getting to know you. I have a special place in my heart for artsy little ladies who cut their own hair and mismatch socks and shoes! You see I have a wee one who is very much the same and when I showed her this she said she had to meet you - perhaps one day when you are on tour?? She's requested that her brother and I join her in the tent she built in the livingroom so I must depart but it is my hope that I get to read your stories about exasperated parents soon.
You and your Mom are wonderful inspirational stars in my life!! Keep rockin' on...
Cartwheels, chocolate and major hugs!
Tashita and the Mini-Doodles
do i ever comment here besides, "i love it!"
but i do, i really really love it. She's a neat kid.
this is awesome! what a great first guest, so lovely. looking forward to this series.
I love your super creative individualistic daughter too. xxx
This is absolutely fantastic!! What a wonderful way in which to color and render someone beautiful!! Love this!!!
I love that your awesome kiddo is one of your biggest inspirations!
She sounds quite the character and fun to keep up with :) Awesome first profile, nothing 'botched' that needs forgiving that I can see :) Excited to see who you pick for next week's artist...
Very Sweet! This would be a fantastic birthday card every year ... just a snippet of what's going on.
Off to a fantastic start! I love her free spirit and confidence. I'm only now learning how to live with a "mismatched sock" spirit and embrace it. What a colorful, joyful future she has ahead of her.
Can't wait for more!
(that was me, deleting a boo-boo.)
i already love the series! that kiddo is so dang cool. so is her momma.
loooove this two gorgeous socked girl...socking us with awesome inspiration to be true to our muse.
she jump starts you...helping you pass the test of also being trueyou, with flying colors!
& you are off, with your superaimee cape flapping in the wind, flying along with your hair in the wind...free to be in this drawing room & in all your rooms, with abandon & beauty.
xox
Love it! God has so uniquely and wonderfully made this girl! she is truly special!
thanks everyone! i'll have a portrait of my other one sometime soon -- she's totally the opposite but inspires me just as much!
I love it! She sounds like she's got such fire and character. And hanging out in your drawing room sounds like a lot of fun!
what a "treasure" you have! from your detailed description I'll bet I could pick your daughter out of a classroom of 8 year olds! I hope you've framed a copy of this artwork for her bedroom??
love this doodle!!!
Having her as the first guest in the Drawing Room was well-deserved. I just love when children let their creativity shine.
she's a super-hero in training ... i love the part about scaling stop signs, and well, everything about her. go artsygirl go!
Ok, I just got a big ol' lump in my throat reading this and thinking about how much your artsy girl will treasure this when she is an artsy grownup. Awesome
super crypto(nite) girlie ;)
Heeheeheee! I've thoroughly enjoyed all your Drawing Rooms, but this one is my FAVORITE!
Artsygirl. Yeah, I'm a big fan. :)
